No words can express the rhythm and the pleasant melody produced by Thai musical instruments,therefore no efforts must be spared to promote Thai music as a form of national art. Thai musical instruments possess a unique melody that can be sweet, rousing and inspiring, which in effect succeeds in winning over the listeners.
The fine quality of Thai craftsmanship has contributed to the beautiful sound and form of thee instruments, making them examplary works of national heritage. The ability to make musical instruments must have been accumulated since the olden days, Thais apparently have been music lover since time in memorial. Some music instruments have been used to send out time signals, such as cylinders, mortars and gongs. Instruments like cymbals, flutes and gamelans, on the other hand , produce happy notes for listening pleasure. When the thai race migrated to settle in the Indochinese peninsula, they came upon different aspects of Indian culture, including its musical instruments. The music-loving Thais readily adopted the newly-found musical culture and integrated it with their own, as well as those of the Mons and the Khmers. With new instruments added, the original collection expanded and the vina , conch, stringed xylophone and drum became integral parts of the Thai ensemble. Thai musical instruments are divided into four groups, as follows:
1.Strings signify a group of musical instruments which feature tightly stretched lengths of cord or wire which, when struck with a round-ended stick,produces musical vibration, such as : Lute, Fiddle and Zither.
2.String suggest another group of musical instruments whose effect is achieved by moving a horse-tailed bow on a set of strings . The vibration produces soothing and sweet melody , Such as : Saw-oo, saw-duang and Saw-sam-sai.
3.Percussions indicate traditional Thai musical instruments . This group of instruments makes the iggest group and has been improved consistently.such as Gong Cymbals, Drum and Ranard.
